Auburn Career Center offers nearly 30 different training programs, including several in its public safety department. Demand for the Centerβs public safety programs has grown rapidly, more than doubling in the past two years. With nearly 200 students and 60 part-time instructors across dozens of classes, managing instructor scheduling via Google Calendar was no longer sustainable.
Because classes are often held on nights and weekends, Auburn Career Centerβs Director of Public Safety Education, Sean Davis, often received frantic afterhours calls from instructors who had trouble reading the schedule in Google Calendar and had shown up to teach at the wrong time or location. This caused confusion and unnecessary challenges, resulting in wasted time for the Centerβs staff and instructors.
Despite pressure to cut costs, Aladtec will never be on the chopping block. I know that the value our program has gained from using Aladtec far outweighs the cost.
Sean Davis, Director of Public Safety Education
As Auburn Career Centerβs public safety courseload doubled, manual scheduling was no longer manageable, and administrators knew that an automated scheduling tool was needed. Because many of the Centerβs public safety instructors are active firefighters and EMS professionals, the majority already used Aladtec. According to Davis, βThey were unanimously in favor of bringing in Aladtec to solve our scheduling challenges.β
Auburn Career Center required a scheduling solution equipped to manage academia and therefore wasnβt sure if Aladtec would be able to meet their unique needs. Aladtec is a leading provider of shift scheduling software for public safety departments, but the Centerβs use case was more unique. They required specific functionality, such as preset rules that enable instructors to only view and sign up for courses theyβre qualified to teach.
SOLUTION & RESULTS:
Aladtec was able to customize its scheduling modules to support Auburn Career Centerβs unique needs. The software runs efficiently without administrator intervention because rules are set specifying which instructors are qualified to teach which classes and categorizing classes by student level. βI no longer have to think about whether an instructor is qualified to teach a particular classβthe custom rules ensure that instructors can only sign up for classes they are qualified to teach,β said Davis.
Using Aladtec saves the Center money by driving productivity for its administrative team and instructors. Time is no longer wasted on building schedules, solving problems caused by the confusing manual schedule, or scrambling to find new instructors at the last minute. When Davis does need to find a replacement, itβs as easy as hitting one button to send a coverage alert out to qualified instructors.
After implementing Aladtec, I now spend zero time on scheduling. Even better, the amount of time that I have to spend outside of work troubleshooting scheduling issues has also been reduced to nothing.
