From Security Risk to Hours Saved: How Vertiv Made a Fast, Secure Switch

Fortune 500 company Vertiv is a global leader in critical digital infrastructure, including power and thermal management for data centers. It has roughly 34,000 employees and does business in more than 130 countries. Andres Carrion is a senior analyst for HR applications at Vertiv and has been with the company for almost 12 years.

Why Vertiv chose TCP Direct

Security gaps in the company’s previous time and attendance solution pushed Vertiv to find an alternative fast. As an Oracle Fusion HCM customer, the business moved timecard management into Oracle Time and Labor, but it needed a new – and secure – way to collect employee punches.

Carrion was involved in vendor evaluations from the start, meeting with each vendor’s representative, watching demos, and running interviews to learn as much as he could before making a decision.

In the end, three things set TCP and its TCP Direct solution apart from other clock vendors: security, ease of use, and price.

Fast to launch, easy to use, and backed by TCP experts

TCP Direct goes beyond simply collecting raw punch data at the clock. It combines flexible, cost-effective time collection options with TimeClock Plus software and an Oracle-certified integration to turn raw punches into accurate, compliant, and HCM-ready data. In short, it turned TCP time clocks into a valuable extension of Vertiv’s existing Oracle systems and time tracking workflows.

Since they needed to move quickly, TCP got Vertiv’s new clocks with TCP Direct up and running asap. After the first few days on the new system, employees settled in, with Carrion noting that the new clocks were “easy and friendly for the employees.”

The touchscreen clocks remove a lot of friction from the punch process, giving employees a clear visual workflow they can follow, and new hires and seasonal workers pick it up with ease.

For Carrion, the standout is the TCP Direct layer between the time clocks and Oracle Time and Labor. Validating the time data is easy and punches flow almost in real time. He estimates it saves about three hours or more per pay period for each of the roughly ten people on his team.

When questions come up, Vertiv and TCP Support work through them together. If something needs a closer look, both teams dig in until they find the answer. Carrion reaches out to TCP Support for everything from quick questions to bigger requests, and he values how fast the team responds.

I always use support. They reply so quickly and even follow up with one-on-one calls.

Looking ahead

Carrion is excited about what’s coming. A new release will let Vertiv manage and validate its interfaces without submitting a support request. He’s also looking forward to using mobile punching, which he calls “awesome.”

His advice for TCP is to keep doing what it’s doing and keep introducing new benefits for their customers’ employees. In his view, that focus is exactly what companies value in TCP.

When asked whether another manufacturer should consider TCP, Carrion’s answer is “absolutely.”

TCP is a big company that offers calm and security, no matter where you need the service.
